Orlando events July 5th and 6th @ Celebration and SugarLoaf Mountain

June 24, 2008

The Orlando tour gets back into the swing of things on the 4th of July weekend with two great events. First on Saturday we will be at Celebration Golf Club to play the perfectly manicured course. Celebration is a great layout and will challenge you to play your best. Tee Times begin at 8am and we have space for 72 players. I will post practice round information as soon as it becomes available. Sunday brings us to the 5th stop on the Sunday Series and it is a special one to be sure. Sugarloaf mountain is a spectacular new course set in the hills of Mineola and will be a treat to play for everyone. The event is limited to 40 players unless we have some quick sign-ups this week and then I may be able to get a few more tee times from the course. We currently have 22 players signed up for the event. Please sign up early for this one so you don’t miss out on playing one of the best courses I have ever seen. I was out there Monday and was blown away by the track. They are offering practice rounds for $55 plus tax and you need to be registered for the event to play a practice round.

The Sunday series has reached the midway point and the standings are below. There is still plenty of time for players to climb the leaderboard as up to 175 points are at stake in each flight at every event. The top 3 point earners for the series will earn bonuses of $300, $200 and $100 in TGW Gift Certificates.

SUNDAY SERIES STANDINGS
1. Richard Newman 430 points

2. Bill Raub 340 points

Scores – Grand Cypress

June 24, 2008

Just a quick note to let you all know that we are working as fast as possible to load all the scores and points in for the event. The site is moving slowly and we are encountering some errors along the way which is delaying the process. So I will one more time ask for your patience as we plod along. Thanks to everyone who played and toughed out the weather and I will be sending out a full recap just as soon as the scoring process is complete.

Orlando Kissimmee Bay and Eagle Creek Wrap- Up

June 16, 2008

We had our first shotgun of the season Saturday at Kissimmee Bay and it made for a very quick day with the average group playing in about 4hours and 35 minutes and the entire event wrapped up around 1:15. With the combined Stableford / Stroke Play format in use this weekend we had some very exciting play and very close scoring both for the flights and the stableford. The results are below as well as the standing for the Sunday Series points as we have reached the halfway point of that series. The next Sunday event has been moved from Hawks Landing to the new SugarLoaf Mountain course in Mineola. I have limited space for that event and the course is not to be missed if you can fit it into your schedule. I will send a separate email out later today detailing that event on July 6th! This week’s Sunday at Eagle Creek had some great scoring and a few members had their rounds of the year. The Hogan flight had a 3-way playoff with Kevin Taber coming out on top while the Palmer flight also went to a playoff with Bryan Powe edging Brian McDonald.

South Hampton Preview

June 16, 2008

Our next Jacksonville event is at South Hampton on June 28th. South Hampton is a tour favorite for several reasons including excellent conditioning, scoring conditions and staff. The tee times will begin at 11:30 am off both 1 and 10 and we are set up to play in 3-somes to insure a good pace of play. The key to keeping the threesome structure is for me to be able to let the course know early in the week what our number will be. To that end I am going to allow players to sign up without paying in advance by CC for this event. This way if you know you intend to play you can register online and select cash as a payment form and you will not be charged at that time. We can settle up towards the end of the week of the event. This will help us plan for the event and let the course know what to expect.

Practice rounds are available for $40 plus tax all day Monday thru Thursday and after 11  Friday thru Sunday.

Orlando GOLF CHANNEL Tour Update and Shingle Creek/Rio Pinar recaps

May 19, 2008

Another fun weekend of golf in Orlando this past weekend. Saturday saw us at Shingle Creek and what a layout. The course was in great shape and we had some very competitive play. The Palmer flight alone saw 7 players separated by 3 shots! A couple of players had career rounds in claiming their flights as well. The switch to overall skins has produced some big payouts but none bigger than this Saturday as 3 players claimed $330 each! Pace was good for essentially all 4-somes on a packed course with the average being 4:49 and almost every group in under 5 hours. Sunday saw our first visit to the private course Rio Pinar. We will definitely be back! It is a well-conditioned great old style traditional layout with a great staff. Thanks to tour members Joe McKinney and Michael Tyson for steering us there. Unfortunately the day ended with an unfortunate circumstance. Mike Tyson had seemingly won the Hogan flight by 5 shots with a 77 and a skin on the 6th hole. When I went to pay him he very honestly told me he had not made a birdie. This led to the revelation that he had inadvertently signed an incorrect scorecard and he had to be dis-qualified from the event. Mike was extremely gracious in accepting his fate and should be applauded for his sportsmanship and the tour would also like to recognize his round as the round of the day on the course. He played very well but behaved better after the round. It is a cautionary tale for all players to be sure to check all the holes on your card and not just the totals.  The pace on Sunday was phenomenal with the average being 4:12 and the slowest being 4:24. Well done to everyone! We have a lot coming up on the tour with Falcons Fire and Grande Pines in a couple of weeks, the Florida Open June 21st and 22nd and it looks like the Orlando Championship September 13th will be expanded to a 2-day event September 13th and 14th.

NEXT EVENTS ON THE ORLANDO TOUR:

May 31st @ Falcons Fire and June 1st @ Grande Pines

Falcons Fire is a tour favorite. Always in great shape and the site of our annual Orlando Championship in September. We will be going off at 7 am for this one and space is limited. Grande Pines is back on the schedule after a 2-year absence. A great track this should make for a fun Sunday!

THE FLORIDA OPEN @ GRAND CYPRESS

The next Regional Major is coming up on June 21st and 22nd. Of course this will also be a National Championship preview as these courses will be part of that rotation as well. I will be sending out detailed info about the event in a separate email this week. Registration is scheduled to close for this event on June 1st!]

FLIGHTING

If you have been struggling in your flight and feel you may need to be adjusted please call or email me and we will review you status. We want everyone to be competitive.
